DIY LEGO Compatible Picnic Table
Looking to create a comfy outdoor building spot for your kids to enjoy? We've got a great DIY tutorial for you! Here's how to turn a kid's picnic table into an awesome DIY LEGO Compatible Picnic Table... and there's even still room for snacks!
Check out the video to learn how to make your own as well as see the table in action!
- Creative QT Tan Peel 'n Stick Baseplates- we used two baseplates from the 4-pack
- Children's picnic table - we used the IKEA RESO Children's Picnic Table, $39.99
- Sharp craft or utility knife (we used this one)
- Craft mat or chopping board
- Building bricks such as DUPLOs or LEGOs
As with all our DIY Baseplate projects we highly recommend using a sharp knife and cutting against a line of bricks; this helps to ensure a clean edge. It also helps to use bricks to join the baseplate segments as you stick them onto the table.
We offer a range of vibrant colored Peel 'n Stick Baseplates, but we opted to keep things natural by using tan baseplates.
Then it's simply a case of Peel, Stick, Play! We opted to use LEGO brand building bricks for building, but our baseplates are also compatible with DUPLOs and Mega Bloks.
You can choose how much of the table you want to cover with baseplates. We decided that it would be nice to still have room for the kids to enjoy refreshments and snacks, and that some strips of baseplates along the middle would work well for encouraging collaborative building.
The idea behind this project is simply to offer kids a fun place to build outside during the summer. Often school vacation mornings are spent being active, so we wanted somewhere our kids could relax and get creative in the afternoons. Converting a children's picnic table works so well. Kids can get comfy, have plenty of space, work collaboratively, and build to their heart's content.
The great thing about our Peel 'n Stick Baseplates is that they are made using industrial strength adhesive. They are perfect for standing up to being left outdoors all summer long!
