Holiday Brick Tin Dollar Store Hack
Want to make your kids a small creation box for on-the-go building brick play this holiday season? We used these festive Dollar Store tins and a green Peel 'n Stick Baseplate in this affordable DIY project. Each tin costs only $3.50 to make!
- 1 x Green Peel 'n Stick Baseplate by Creative QT (costing $9.95), one baseplate makes four tins
- Dollar Store Christmas tins (costing $1 each)
- LEGO Classic Rainbow Fun Building Kit 10401 (costing $5 each)
- Sharp utility or craft knife (we used this one)
- Chopping board or cutting mat
- Bricks (needed to cut against when cutting the baseplate)
DIY Project Instructions:
The great thing about our Peel 'n Stick Baseplates is that they can be easily cut to size. We used one green baseplate and cut it into four correctly sized pieces using our sharp craft knife. Be sure to cut against a line of bricks for a nice straight break!
Once you've run the knife along the baseplate several times, remove the bricks. Gently apply pressure as you bend the baseplate until it breaks along the cut line. Use the craft knife to cut through the red backing.
Then it's simply a case of peeling off the red backing and sticking it to the tin lid! As you stick the baseplate, apply pressure to ensure that all of the adhesive contacts the tin.
That's it! Your festive brick tins are all set!
Our baseplates are LEGO and DUPLO Compatible. We chose to fill each tin with a small box of LEGOs as we knew our kids would get hours of fun over the holiday season from their new portable brick tins!
These little 85 piece boxes of bricks are ideal as they come with an exciting range of parts and instructions to build four cute little projects.
Best of all, when it's time to pack up and leave, just place the builds and instructions in the tin and close it up!
