Materials Needed:

  • Creative QT Peel 'n Stick Baseplate, 10" x 10", starting at $9.95 and available in a range of colors (we used some green and blue off-cuts from another project)
  • 5" x 7" clear plastic frames with stand from the Dollar Tree, $1 each
  • Sharp craft or utility knife (we used this one)
  • Craft mat or chopping board
  • LEGO style building bricks
  • Some pictures of your adorable kiddos!

Instructions:

As a sharp knife is required, we definitely recommend that Dad or another adult is in charge of making the frames. All that's required is to measure up the pieces of baseplate and cut them. We decided to go for a width of two studs as this all fitted together nicely. When you cut, be sure to cut against a line of bricks and to follow the same groove each time. Then fold the baseplate along the groove until it snaps and you can cut off the attached backing.

Once you've got the necessary four strips of baseplate, one by one peel off the backing and stick them in place. Don't push down too hard to begin with as you may need to reposition the strips a little so that they all line up.

Once all of the strips are stuck down firmly, just check to make sure that there are no sharp edges left exposed. If there are, you can use the craft knife to carefully file them off.

And there you have it- the frames are constructed and ready for your kids to start decorating!

DIY Building Brick Picture Frames

We put out an inviting mixture of bricks and mini figures and encouraged our kids to get creative when designing a special frame for Mom. We also put their pictures in the frames so that they could understand the gift in its entirety.

They could not wait, and started adding bricks and mini figures to their frames straight away.
