Creative QT Team's Favorite Holiday Traditions

Creative QT is all about family! We are a small business, owned by Adam and Dana Sue Hinkle, who are parents to five amazing kiddos. Also working for the company are Kate, Jason and Lucy. Nothing is more important to all of the team than enjoying the holidays with our families. From advent calendars as a favorite Christmas food, to 'Minivan Express' surprises, here are our top Creative QT team traditions.

Adam and Dana Sue Hinkle: Owners and Founders

1. Favorite Holiday Tradition?

"What? We're only allowed one? We have so many holiday traditions that we enjoy as a family each year! We enjoy the typical activities of baking cookies, watching Christmas movies in our pajamas, and making paper snowflakes.

We also have some pretty special ones that the whole family enjoys. Adam's favorite is the 'Minivan Express' tradition. Any night after 1st December the kids always check under their pillows. If there is a golden ticket, we all bundle into the minivan with hot chocolate and drive around the best neighborhoods for Christmas lights. It's such a fun link to the kids' all time top Christmas movie- The Polar Express!

My favorite tradition is that we give each kid an ornament that represents their last year.

These are not store bought, but instead made with love by Mom and Dad. For example, our daughter Mercy was very attached to her pacifier. The year she finally gave it up we used her old pacifier as an ornament by adding ribbon and using a Sharpie to decorate it. I've even been know to make a miniature cast for the year that one of the kiddos broke their arm.

Each year when we go to decorate the tree we are flooded with happy memories from previous year's ornaments."

2. Favorite Christmas Food?

"We will go with Adam's answer for this one as he said nothing in particular, just the fact that you get to eat so much more of everything, and there is no judgement! The Hinkles love food, and love the fact that it is a great way to bring all our friends and family together over the festive period."

3. Best Gift Ever Given?

"One of my favorite gifts to give to the Grandparents is a digital scrapbook of family vacations. I'm afraid Adam completely outshines that though with a gift he made for his Dad a few years back. He made a 22 foot boat!! Yes 100% handmade! You should have seen us driving all the way from Colorado to Texas with it hanging over the front and back of our car!"

4. Best Gift Ever Received?

"Adam steals the show on this front as well! From carving a wood rose, to giving me a heart necklace and telling me that he was giving me his heart, he is a really thoughtful guy! He also built miniature statues of my brother and I on skis and attached ski passes for us to go skiing together! He is pretty good at giving presents that's for sure!"

Jason Charvet: Operations Manager

1. Favorite Holiday Tradition?

"Our family has a mix of Christmas and Hanukkah traditions. Last year they over-lapped which resulted in us enjoying Christmakkah!! We always stay at my Brother's house with his family in the mountains of British Colombia. We all play in the snow and then have a double feast of Christmas and Hanukkah treats. To top it all off it is my Mother's birthday on 26th December so we have another big reason to keep the celebrations going."

2. Favorite Christmas Food?

"Am I allowed to say advent calendars? Apart from that I'd go for stuffing and my Mother's roasted potatoes."

3. Best Gift Ever Given?

"That's a tough one. I think I'd have to say a vintage bike for my friend Tina. I found an ad for a gorgeous vintage 3 speed bike for just $25 and with a bit of elbow grease I got it into great shape. She hadn't owned a bike for ages and really missed riding. Now she uses it all the time. She named the bike Evergreen."

4. Best Gift Ever Received?

"I'd have to say one of the best, most impactful gifts I ever received was a guitar from my Mother when I was 15. It allowed me to express myself and helped me come out of my shell. That guitar met its end a few years ago after the wind blew it over at a jam session. Even though I lost my first guitar I still play almost every day!"

Kate Ladd: Communications Manager

1. Favorite Holiday Tradition?

"One of my favorite Christmas traditions is getting new Christmas pajamas! Growing up, we'd come home from Christmas Eve church service in the evening to find new Christmas jammies under our pillows that Santa had dropped off for us. I can't wait until my babies are old enough to look forward to this tradition too!"

2. Favorite Christmas Food?

"Christmas cookies! The more the merrier! I love to bake and each year my mom, grandma and I make dozens of different types of cookies that we serve at holiday parties and make plates to gift to neighbors. My personal favorite is the classic sugar cookie with sour cream frosting!"

3. Best Gift Ever Given?

"One of my favorite memories of dating my now husband is our first Christmas together. I gifted him a North Face fleece jacket and he was SO excited! I was already crazy about him, but watching his genuine excitement over the gift I picked out for him made me fall even more in love with him. Is that too mushy!? That was six years ago and he's still wearing it!

4. Best Gift Ever Received?

"I'll never forget waking up as a little girl and coming down the stairs to see Molly the American Girl Doll waiting for me under the Christmas tree. I adored her and all my little girl dreams came true that Christmas morning!"

Lucy Baker: Content and Social Media Coordinator

1. Favorite Holiday Tradition?

"We don't actually have too many family holiday traditions as we have moved around a fair amount and experienced Christmas in several different countries and cultures. One tradition that I remember from being a kid and that I have continued with my own kids is giving a Christmas Eve box. In the box is a cozy pair of Christmas jammies, socks, a book, a movie, popcorn, and a sweet treat. The box gets opened early evening ready for a nice family night of festivities."

2. Favorite Christmas Food?

"Am I allowed to say that I don't really like Christmas dinner without being hated? I actually much prefer our Christmas breakfast of coffee, hot chocolate, muffins and pastries. We much away as a few early presents are opened. I do have one favorite food from my time in England that I look forward to every Christmas. It's called a Terry's Chocolate Orange. It is basically an orange but made out of orange flavored chocolate...... and the size of an orange! Yummy!!"

3. Best Gift Ever Given?

"My son is train-obsessed and watching him open his electric Polar Express train last year with the biggest squeal of delight absolutely made my year. Nothing beats seeing pure joy on your kiddo's face! One year as a teenager I gave my Mom a necklace that was a big heart and small heart intertwined and she wears it every single day. That was a pretty special one too."

4. Best Gift Ever Received?

"I have to say that one of my favorite gifts I received was an early present for this Christmas and it was inspired by the Creative QT Holiday Gift Guide for Mom. My parents bought me Lisa Leonard Stacking Rings with my kids' names on them. I don't wear much jewelry but I love the simple design combined with sentimental value."

Such a diverse range of Christmas celebrations from the Creative QT team. We hope you feel like you know us a little better! Our main message this holiday season- enjoy the food, enjoy the presents, but most of all Make Time Together and each each other!
