5 Ways to Freshen Up Bath Play
After those long Summer days bathtime is a must in our house. But having a bath can be about so much more than just cleaning the kids. Why not use it to extend the day's play with these 5 simples ideas.
1. Letters & Crayons
Our youngest enjoys simple mark making and color recognition, whilst the older kids enjoy tracing the letters, making words, and elaborate bath tub sketches. The great thing is that it all easily washes off- our kids actually love getting to scrub the bath clean with their sponges after.
2. Glow Sticks
Turning off some lights and snapping glow sticks never fails to impress! There are so many fun variations on this one. You can make glow balloons by placing the sticks inside balloons before blowing them up. We like to add some music and make it a glow party in the bath!
You can also add an artistic twist by drawing faces on the glow balloons!
Another way to enjoy some glow stick fun in the bath is to hide them in left over plastic Easter eggs. The kids get such a kick out of seeing the eggs glow under the water and then cracking them open to discover the color glowing inside. We also sometimes add bubbles for some extra sensory fun.
Glow sticks can be found at many different stores but we tend to get ours at Party City or Walmart.
3. Water Tools
There are so many cheap water play tools you can add to bath time to really jazz it up. Think containers, measuring jugs, scoopers, spray bottles, funnels ... all of which are pretty cheap and easy to find in stores such as Dollar Tree and Walmart. If you want something a little more refined to hone in on those fine motor skills, we would highly recommend the Learning Resources Helping Hands Fine Motor Tool Set.
Our youngest loves sitting in a shallow bath with containers, scoopers and her little tools, simply transferring the water from place to place.
4. Crayola Bath Dropz
Kids love experimenting with color and these Crayola Bath Dropz are such an awesome way to feed that curiosity. Simply drop one in the water and watch the color fizz and spread to make a colored bath. We love using them to make themed small world baths such as this bath aquarium!
We had great fun using up our leftover plastic Easter eggs to make surprise color bombs! We simply chopped up small parts of the Bath Dropz and hid them inside the eggs. As the eggs have holes in, when they are placed in the bath the water seeps in and before you know it the eggs are filling the bath with a vibrant mixture of colors. This is such a fun link to color mixing!
Children will have a blast cracking open the eggs and being hands on with the new colors produced.
5. Building Brick Bath
As you know here at Creative QT we love building bricks. We play with them everywhere, even in the bath tub! The added sensory experience of water when creating will prompt so much imaginative play. We went a step further an made a fun building brick pulley system for in the bath!
Hopefully we've inspired you with some fresh ideas for making bath time an extension of your kids' playtime! We'd love to hear about what your kids enjoying playing with in the bath- we are always after new play ideas!
